Dornoch is a fantastic base for planning a day trip round the Highlands of Scotland, here are a couple of our favourite suggestions for guests.
East Coast History
For Scottish History buffs we have the Historylinks Museum right on our doorstep which has lots of information on the history of Dornoch and the surrounding area after this you could drive up to visit Dunrobin Castle in Golspie to check out this historic Castle, beautiful gardens and witness their falconry display. Following this you can drive further north to the small village of Helmsdale and pop into their museum Timespan that is home to the only contemporary art gallery in Sutherland, and well worth a visit.
Cromarty
Explore everything that Cromarty has to offer form Wildlife watching with Ecoventures where you have the chance to see a pod of dolphins in the Cromarty Firth. Mountain biking round the specially built Learnie Red Rocks trails, which are suitable for all levels. Cromarty also has lots of boutique and antique shops dotted around this enchanting town for you to get something special for your friends and family. You could even finish you day by popping into the Cromarty Brewing Company for a tour and tasting.
Loch Ness
Why bring your binoculars and drive south to try and spot the famous Nessie whilst visiting Scotland, there are regular cruises and tours that will take you along Loch Ness and you can even explore the spectacular ruins of Urquhart Castle. There are plenty of cafés and restaurants to choose from in near by town Drumnadrochit.
Durness
Take the scenic drive up the west and spend the morning visiting the magical Smoo Cave and walk around the gorgeous Sango Sands beach, followed by a wee trip to Balnakeil to sample Cocoa Mountain’s famous hot chocolate and sample a few of their famous chocolates.
